Sweet Fennel
Every part of the sweet fennel plant is edible. A perennial plant which has an aniseed fragrance and flavour, the seeds are used in cooking sauces, breads, meats, fish and other savoury and sweet dishes. The leaves can be added to salads and finely chopped added to vegetables. Cook as a root vegetable. Aids digestion by relaxing smooth muscles of the digestive walls. Has been used for upset stomach, colic and flatulence. Use seeds in moderation if you have a history of allergies or skin sensitivities and avoid during pregnancy.
Growing Info
Plant in full-sun, grows in a wide variety of soil types. Feathery leaves, it grows to 2m high. Will stunt the growth of nearby plants, particulary beans, coriander and tomatoes. Use a mulch around base to keep plant moist.
