The Basilea Story
The story of Basilea Living Herbs began long before we moved to Burpengary. It started in a suburban garden in Balwyn, Melbourne, where my mother first introduced me to the magic of growing things.

That passion became a way of life in 2001 when my mum made a lifestyle move and bought a two-acre hydroponic herb farm called Morning Grove on Burpengary Road in the middle of Caboolture Shire, Qld.
It took just one week of dinner table discussions for us to decide on a new name: Basilea. The name was a perfect fit, a playful combination of "Basil," our best-selling herb, and "Lea," meaning meadow, because our rows of hydroponic grow channels looked like tiny, vibrant green meadows. For 25 years, it has been a joy and a source of wonder to hear the many ways people pronounce it!

I started working from the ground up, learning every aspect of the farm. In June of 2013, I took over the family business, becoming the owner and Farmher. I then relocated the farm to my own 3/4-acre property on the other side of Burpengary, bringing my vision of a local and sustainable business to life.

With clear and careful planning, I designed a new kind of farm. Basilea is an open-air, sun-hardy farm, for the best possible taste, quality and freshness. The selection of herbs delivered is seasonal and varies week to week, ensuring the very best taste and appearance. The new farm is not only sustainable but also environmentally ethical—we reuse and recycle 80% more on-farm compared to the previous farm. In the first 12 months, we halved our water usage by utilising a newly designed reticulated water cycle and rainwater harvesting system.

Our Story Continues

Today, as a second-generation family farm, Basilea Living Herbs passionately grows and delivers the very best selection of full-flavored, spray-free living herbs, gourmet greens, and edible flowers. We ensure they arrive in perfect condition, ready for talented chefs to use in their exquisite culinary creations.
However, our mission extends beyond just supplying restaurants. We believe in the power of education and connection. That's why we've opened our farm to the public through Basilea Farm Tours and a variety of workshops, presentations, and collaborative events. We love sharing our passion for ethical growing and the joy of farm-to-table food with our community, one herb pot at a time.
