The Basilea Story

Now a second generation family farm Basilea Living Herbs has grown, packaged and delivered the very best selection of spray free living herbs, edible flowers, salads, spinach and mustard greens seedlings direct to the public via Farm Open Days and independent retail stockists and farmers markets around Brisbane for almost 20 years.

Plants are grown north of Brisbane and sold in small pots for the best quality and freshness possible for use by home chefs and kitchen gardeners. Seedlings have enough growth to use straight away and can be planted for future harvests. As we say at Basilea, 'Eat today and plant tomorrow'.

Basilea Living Herbs are delivered direct from the farm to independent green growers around Brisbane by the farmer herself, ensuring they arrive in perfect condition.

The selection of herbs delivered to our retail stockists are seasonal and vary from week to week to ensure the best quality.

Basilea grow an extensive range of culinary herbs, from the well-known to unusual and difficult to find, as well has some seasonal vegetables and useful remedy herbs. In addition we grow salad, spinach and mustard greens and edible flowers.

Basilea is an open air farm ensuring all plants are sun hardy, giving them the best chance for transplanting into your garden and a longer survival rate living in your kitchen.

In June of 2013, Sarah Heath, took over the family business from her mother, becoming the Owner and Grower, and relocated the farm to Burpengary, north of Brisbane.

Clear and careful planning ensured the new farm was sustainable and environmentally ethical. They were able to reuse and recycle 80% of the previous farm, and in the first 12 months halve the water use with the newly designed reticulated water cycle and rainwater harvest system.

Sarah is dedicated to growing a local and sustainable business to ensure that every home in Brisbane, north of Brisbane and Moreton Bay ares can have locally grown, spray free, nutritional herbs, greens and edible flowers in their kitchen garden which can be used everyday in their kitchen.

To support this mission, Sarah has become a passionate culinary herb educator, running beginner and advanced grower workshops and talks to share her extensive knowledge of herbs and edible flowers suitable for growing in South East Queensland. She is also an active member of the Queensland Herb Society, Brisbane Organic Growers Inc and Young Farmers Connect.
