Turmeric - 70mm pot
Turmeric is a spice that comes from the turmeric plant. It is commonly used in Asian food. You probably know turmeric as the main spice in curry. It has a warm, bitter taste and is frequently used to flavour or colour curry powders, mustards, butters and cheeses. Young shoots and flowers can be used in salads or stir-frys. Its most active compound curcumin has many scientifically-proven health benefits, such as the potential to prevent heart disease, Alzheimers and cancer. It's a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
A perennial that grows up to 1mtr tall, the leaves are green with white or pale yellow flowers. Rhizomes can be dug up in autumn and propagation is by division of the rhizome in spring. Grows well in humid conditions in moist well-drained soil. Keep the water up to it.
