Nasturtium

$7.00Price

Intensely bright nasturtium flowers and rounded peltate leaves put on a wonderful winter display year after year. All parts of the plant are edible. Mostly known as a garnish and used in salads, the slightly peppery taste is similar to watercress. Leaves can also be cooked and are often used in stir-frys as a spinach substitute. The flowers are high in vitamin C and contain up to 45mg of lutein per 100g, which is the highest amount found in any edible plant with the second being kale. The nasturtium plant has been used in herbal medicine for its antiseptic and expectorant qualities. They are said to be good for chest colds and to promote the formation of new blood cells.
