Pennyroyal Mint
Pennyroyal Mint has a lovely distinctive fragrance. The flowers are mauve or white which grow in tiers and clusters. A member of the mint family, pennyroyal mint is a ground cover and can be planted in pots, in pathways or makes a fantastic grass substitute. It has very small, narrow, slightly hairy aromatic leaves that can be used, fresh or dried, as an insect repellent for flies, mosquito and fleas. Try growing Pennyroyal Mint next to your pet's sleeping place, BBQ area or on your kitchen window sill, to keep the pests away.
Widely used in cooking, herbal teas, face masks and as essential oils in Aromatherapy. Only use reputable recipes as Pennyroyal can be toxic and is best avoided by pregnant women.
Growing Info
The plant has a camphor or peppermint scent and does best in moist conditions with semi-shade. The plant can be divided by root in the spring and summer. It spreads rapidly from underground runners and can be a problem invader so if you have limited space, recommeded to plant in garden beds or pot.
Perennial / 15-30cm / Part sun – Sun / Moderate water / Low fertiliser
